The apartments, arranged over four blocks, will be finished to an exceptionally high standard of specification which is synonymous with the Weston Homes brand.
Bob Weston, Chairman & CEO of Weston Homes, commented:
Millers Quarter is a development which bridges the gap between the old and the new.”
“Bury St Edmunds is one of the most historic towns in the United Kingdom and walking through it is like being transported to a different century, however, Weston Homes have ensured that each apartment in Millers Quarter has been designed to the highest specification for ultimate modern convenience. It presents an unprecedented opportunity to have the best of both worlds, a beautiful, contemporary apartment in a town rich with interesting history.”
An archaeological study conducted on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds uncovered evidence of both bronze age activity and Roman coins from the first and second centuries. This proved the town’s historic origins and placed it on the map as one of the oldest towns in England.
After the Romans, in 633, Sigebert, King of the East Angles, founded a monastery in Bury St Edmunds which the town began to grow around. By the 12th century, the 4,000 strong town was flourishing as a cloth making town with a large woollen trade. Henry III, Henry IV and James I granted fayres in the town centre, one of which, The Bury Christmas Fayre, still exists today. James I also granted two markets on Wednesday and Saturday, which also still exist today and which have both been deemed amongst the best markets in the UK by The National Market Traders Federation (NMTF).
The architecture of Bury St Edmunds has little changed since its first development and the town offers an array of cobbled streets and picturesque Medieval and Georgian Squares. Lining these streets and squares are an array of popular high street brands as well as small boutique shops, all within walking distance of Millers Quarter.
Most conveniently, the Arc Shopping Centre is a ten minute walk from Millers Quarter. It has a choice of 38 shopping outlets, including Debenhams, Hotel Chocolat and Monsoon as well as avariety of well-known coffee shops and restaurants such as Costa, Nando’s and Wagamama. The Apex, an award-winning arts venue, is also found within the Arc. It hosts a range of events throughout the year including food and drink festivals, art exhibitions and concerts as well as many exciting entertainment events for the whole family. If you have heavy shopping, it is a three minute bus journey from the Arc right to the doors of Millers Quarter.
Close to Millers Quarter in the centre of Bury St Edmunds are also a variety of award-winning restaurants which offer a range of international food. For a fine dining experience, head to The Angel or Maison Bleue – both a ten minute walk from Millers Quarter. For those who prefer a more traditional menu The Station pub can be found close by. Pubs and bars are also plentiful with The Nutshell pub once listed as the Smallest Pub in the World in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The open plan apartments at Millers Quarter will include designer fitted kitchens with Zanussi integrated appliances, a choice of units by Oakwood Kitchens and quartz worktops and upstands (depending on stage of build) as well as Fascino sanitaryware in both the kitchens and bathrooms. All bathroom and ensuite units are finished with RAK ceramic basins and porcelain tiles. The properties at Millers Quarter also come complete with forest oak internal doors with polished chrome ironmongery, choice of white oak or ebony oak strip wood flooring to entrance hall, living area, dining area, kitchen and cloakrooms and a choice of carpet to bedrooms. Weston Homes offer an exceptional product and we hope that this can meet the requirements of local house hunters either looking to get on to the property ladder for the first time, purchase an investment to add to a portfolio or a newly built, low maintenance property to downsize to.”
