Set within a classical neo-Georgian style building, the development was designed by multi-award winning architect, Louis De Soissons, who used the upper floors of the building as his architectural studio for over 30 years.
Created in 1929, the development is set across two buildings, Denmark House and Windsor House and features French doors and tall sash windows on the upper floors of the building. De Soissons created a light filled space with carefully thought out interiors in order to illuminate the architectural plans and drawing boards in the architectural studio.

Providing one and two bedroom apartments, Garden Row Apartments overlook the central civic green square, which forms the heart of Welwyn Garden City. Based on the 1898 vision of Sir Ebenezer Howard to create a green and leafy suburban town close to London, construction of Welwyn Garden City, under the auspices of Louis De Soissons began in 1920. The civic and commercial centre of the town, designed around a large green square, was the first part of Welwyn Garden City to be constructed. Today, the vibrant and pretty town is a highly desirable setting in which to live.
Garden Row Apartments features a mansard roof constructed in the finest quality Hertfordshire red brick and Portland stone and originally served as the Estate Department of Welwyn Garden City Ltd, the management company established to build Welwyn Garden City.
After his death in 1962 a bust of De Sossions and an inscription was placed on a stone pediment above the main entrance to the building where it remains to this day as a reminder of the building’s role as the architectural studio where he worked for the majority of his career. The building then served as offices for a bakery company and solicitors practice before now being acquired by Weston Homes for conversion into a prestigious residential scheme.
De Soissons is famous for designing landmark buildings across central London such as the landmark home office building in Whitehall, The Duchy of Cornwall London Estate for King Edward VIII and the restoration of Cumberland and Chester Terraces in Regents Park.
Garden Row Apartments ideallly located close to a range of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. The development is less than five minutes walk from Welwyn Garden City train station, which provides links to London Kings Cross in around 30 minutes. For those who drive, the A1 is close by, offering connections to the M25.
