In and Around Buckingham

With fine Georgian buildings, open green spaces, tree lined streets and a number of local restaurants, tearooms and pubs, Buckingham is a beautiful place to call home. Located within easy driving distance of Bletchley, Bicester and Oxford there is no shortage of things to do in the areas around Nightingale Rise.

Buckingham old Gaol

Buckingham old Gaol is a historic prison built in 1748 and is now an antiques shop, museum and tourist information centre. This building is well worth a visit both for it’s striking appearance and the museum within, containing Buckinghamshire Military Trust exhibits, and a number of the cells left over from the building’s time as a prison in the 18th and 19th Centuries.

Bicester Village

A 25 minute drive from Nightingale Rise is Bicester Village, a shopping Centre with over 130 high end fashion and retail stores. Whether it’s a quick buy or an all day shopping trip, Bicester Village has all the designer brands you could need, with many restaurants and cafés, to complete your visit.

Stowe House and Landscape Gardens

Stowe House is a beautiful Grade I listed country house, and home of the Stowe School, located only 2.5 miles from Nightingale Rise. The surrounding gardens, known as the Stowe Landscape Gardens are open to the public and owned by the National Trust. The estate dates back to 1677 and the house is open for daily tours and events.

Oxford

The stunning university town of Oxford has a range of world class museums, architecture and culture on offer, all within easy reach on one of the many walking or river boat tours available.

Founded in the 8th century, Oxford is rich with history and is most famous for its university, which is currently ranked the 2nd best in the world by timeshighereducation.com.

Oxford is the perfect location to study or relax on a weekend away, with incredible architecture and history all within a 45 minute drive of Buckingham.

Bletchley Park

Approximately 10 miles east of our Nightingale Rise you will find Bletchley Park. Made famous through films and books, Bletchley park was the site of the United Kingdom’s Government Code and Cypher School, which during the Second World War was responsible for deciphering secret enemy communications and codes.

Today, Bletchley Park is being transformed into a heritage and education site, with a visitors centre and the grounds maintained as they were during the 1940s. There are many exhibits for families and schools to see including one on the film “The Imitation Game” and a number of original artifacts and code breaking computers.
