Weston Homes create ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ themed room to assist marketing houses to families

Leading housebuilder Weston Homes and their interior design consultancy Blocc Interiors have used standard and bespoke Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merchandise, mini-figures and themed accessories in order to create a striking children’s Ninja Turtles bedroom that is entirely themed and dressed with the famous turtle products.

The result is an innovative sewer-effect children’s bedroom that is a world away from a conventional sleeping area. The four Tinja Turtles live underground in the New York sewers so instead of a conventional entrance to the bedroom, a new Ninja Turtle one has been created with a comic-book style drain man-hole cover featured on the ceiling of the bedroom with metallic wall mounted treats down one wall forming a ladder to the bedroom below.

Instead of conventional wallpaper the bedroom has walls painted to look like concrete blocks seeping with sewage and the cosy carpet is designed to look like a sea of mud. “Floating” on the mud-effect carpet is a Ninja Turtle bed dressed with a turtle cushion, a man-hole cover cushion and a range of TMNT pyjamas and clothing.

To either side of the bed are steel mini-drawers, Turtle style, which are dressed with bright turtle green side lamps. A bright turtle green bean bag, for when mutant-rat Splinter visits, also floats on the mud-effect carpet. The main bedroom light has bright green turtle lights and on the walls a four large Andy Warhol style prints of the four turtles – Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello.

Instead of a conventional cupboard there is a steel prison-cell style cage (no doubt for super-baddie Shredder) again containing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle merchandise and topped with a turtle bike helmet. On the window shelf are photo frames filled with cartoon prints of the famous characters along with TMNT mini-figures. The end result is a striking, uplifting and exciting children’s space which captures everyone’s imagination.

Purchasers who purchase and exchange on a two bedroom family house or larger across the Weston Homes portfolio before the end of May 2015 will be entitled to have a similar free-of-charge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themed bedroom installed in their new home. Once the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pieces are ordered and delivered, the design scheme agreed and the walls and carpet laid, the new themed room can be created within 24-48 hours depending on level of complexity.

In addition to creating a special library of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle bedroom photography, Weston Homes has also created a special Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle bedroom in the showhome of their St. Catherine’s Grange development of 23 two, three and four bedroom family houses located off Stickling Green Road in the pretty village of Clavering in Essex.

Bob Weston, Chairman & Managing Director of Weston Homes said: “The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a global phenomenon loved by children of all ages, whose appetite for the brand is fed by the new Hollywood movie and the existing TV cartoon series, comic books, mini-figures and computer games. The houses at St. Catherine’s Grange are perfect for families and over 50% of the visitors to the development have been families who are enchanted with the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtle themed room. It has definitely helped play a role in our success at promoting the houses to families with children.”

Jonathan Lewis, Sales & Marketing Director of Weston Homes said: “Each year we create and promote a new themed children’s bedroom to assist with our marketing to families. Last year it was a Lego themed bedroom which generated huge interest, and this year it’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Themed merchandising and co-branding has become increasingly important to housebuilders as it enables us to link into topical movies and TV series that attract big domestic and global audiences.”

Created in 1984 by artists Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first appeared in a series of hugely successful comic books. Mini-figures followed in 1986 and an animated TV cartoon series which was produced between 1987 to 1996.

A second and third far more advanced animated TV cartoon series was produced between 2003 to 2009 and 2012 to present, supported by increasingly large budgets and sophisticated animation.

There have been five feature films produced on the four turtles in 1990, 1991, 1993, 2007 and most recently in 2014. The 2014 movie grossed over £330 million pounds worldwide making it one of the most successful children’s movies of the last five years. Another sequel is already scheduled for 2016. The Mirage Group which owns the brand and produces the cartoons is now a multi-billion grossing business which has an audience of millions across the world. Every recent merchandise launch has produced sales of over 4 million per launch event making it one of the most successful children’s brands of all time.

The houses at St Catherines Grange are priced from £374,995. For purchasers wanting a family home and an opportunity to view the stunning Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themed bedroom, the marketing suite at St. Catherines Grange is open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm.
