Lottery winning home: Lucky young couple found their perfect first home together at Weston Homes’ Edinburgh Way development

Data analyst Oliver Oakes and teacher Celia Henson, both 24 years old, moved into their first home at Weston Homes’ development, Edinburgh Way, a little over a year ago. Their smart new one-bedroom, second-floor apartment was exactly what the couple were looking for. After being so excited about “owning” his postcode for the first time, Oliver entered the postcode lottery at Edinburgh Way and won a staggering £5,000 – perfect timing for the couple who had been saving since they were 21 years old for a deposit.

Edinburgh Way comprises 361 one- and two-bedroom apartments across five new residential buildings , the majority of which have either a private balcony or terrace. The development overlooks the River Stort and the beautiful 164 acre Harlow Town Park. A few minutes’ walk from Harlow Town station, which benefits from direct links to London Liverpool Street in under 30 minutes, make it the ideal location for buyers wanting a speedy connection.

Oliver and Celia both benefit from Edinburgh Way’s fantastic connectivity, “It is a great location for anyone. With friends in Clapham and Streatham, it is perfect for us as we are minutes from the London line train station,” says Oliver.

Oliver left Leeds University with a maths and science degree and had rented there as an undergraduate for £700 a month. Having been spending money on rent each month and saving for their deposit, Oliver was delighted when he found out their mortgage at Edinburgh Way came to £1,200 a month, which he and Celia share the cost of.

After taking time to look for their dream home, nothing compared to the apartment at Edinburgh Way, as the couple thought it offered the best value in the area. Oliver explains, “When someone buying this flat pulled out, we got the offer, and we jumped at it.”

Weston Homes prioritises customer service, ensuring a smooth buying process. “The Weston Homes sales team made everything so straightforward. We felt reassured we were in safe hands,” Oliver shares.

Low bills and minimal maintenance have been significant benefits for Oliver and Celia. “In the winter, gas and electricity bills are really low,” Oliver explains. They were relieved to move into a new home needing no renovation. “I’m so glad we didn’t buy something we had to renovate,” Oliver says, “Celia feels safe and secure here.”

Oliver, who works from home part-time, praised the flat’s high-speed internet, hi-tech bathroom temperature controls, and instant boiling water tap in the kitchen. “There’s so much included, and we’ve never felt short of space,” he says. The couple keeps their home organised, and even their pet hamster enjoys a “luxury” cage. “When you move into something smart, you want to keep it smart,” Oliver adds.

Oliver kept up his lucky streak after winning a £500 John Lewis voucher in a Weston Homes competition, which allowed the couple to add the finishing touches to their new home, including their much-loved air fryer.
Suzanne Aplin, Group Sales & Marketing Director at Weston Homes, says: “We are thrilled to see Oliver and Celia enjoying their new Weston Homes apartment at Edinburgh Way. It’s great to see that they have settled into their new home so soon. We couldn’t be happier for the couple and their recent good fortune.
