Retail therapy

With bars and restaurants, a cinema and some 90 shopping outlets, The Oracle Centre can satisfy those in need of retail therapy and a little relaxation.

Premium brands such as Hobbs, Phase 8, Hugo Boss, Timberland, Apple, House of Fraser, John Lewis and Superdry sit alongside popular high street names including Boots, Debenhams, H & M and Holland & Barrett. A wide selection of eateries serve dishes from around the world or for a lighter bite café’s and takeaways can be found at The Riverside. For the latest blockbusters there is plenty of choice at the 11 screen Vue Cinema which can accommodate 1,800 people.

A wide selection of eateries and shops can also be found in the Broad Street area of the town. With popular chain bars to smaller family run businesses the night scene in Reading has something for everyone.

For entertainment, nothing beats the atmosphere of the world renowned Reading Festival, an annual music event held close to the city centre. Alternatively, you can enjoy the offerings of The Hexagon Theatre including, drama, classical music, dance, rock, pop and comedy.


For sport enthusiasts

If sporting activities are on the agenda, then the annual Reading Half Marathon which sees 15,000 runners competing might be of interest. Reading has over 100 parks including Forbury Gardens and five miles of riverside paths to enjoy the stunning scenery whether walking, running or riding a bicycle. Thames Lido lies 2 short miles away from Reading Riverside, a recently restored destination for relaxation in the pool, a holistic treatment or a delicious meal to restore you!

Golfers are spoilt for choice with Sonning Golf Course, a well-established Club founded in 1914 and Calcot Park, rated among the top golf clubs in Berkshire. The well regarded Caversham Heath Golf Club is also close by and both Henley Golf Club and Badgemore Golf Club are within driving distance.

Woodford Park Leisure Centres offers gym and class facilities alongside a five-court sports hall, an outdoor tennis court, play parks and an outdoor paddling pool. If participating is not for you, why not enjoy the thrill of a live match at Reading Football Club or the London Irish Rugby Union.

To the east of Reading lies Caversham Lakes Marina – where rowing, sailing, water-skiing, motorboating and angling are all available to enjoy. Wellington Country Park is close by offering 350 acres of parklands with plenty of activities for all the family, as is Dinton Pastures Country Park with its 350 acres of meadows, lakes and outdoor sports facilities, including open water swimming, cross country running and boat and paddleboard hire.

For history enthusiasts, Reading offers family friendly museums as well as over 800 listed buildings and monuments, and both Ascot and Henley Royal Regatta are within easy reach for that special sporting occasion
