Weston Homes launch ‘commuter-homes’ in East Grinstead, London’s busiest rail-commuter market town

Leading housebuilder Weston Homes has launched Queens Walk in East Grinstead, a scheme of 129 one and two bedroom apartments, priced from £254,995 (reserve with a £1,000 deposit), designed around a central landscaped courtyard garden.

Weston’s new residential scheme is specially designed for first time buyers and London commuters since East Grinstead is the capital’s busiest rail-commuter market town, with a journey time of just 56 minutes between East Grinstead and London Victoria Station.

Located 27 miles south of Central London, East Grinstead, with a population of 26,383, is one of the oldest London commuter towns in the country. It is also the busiest London rail-commuter town in the UK, having more daily rail passengers travelling into central London than any other town or suburb in the country (Source: Department for Transport 2018).

East Grinstead Railway Station was opened in 1855, and from its Victorian origins the East Grinstead to London commuter line has developed into the most popular and used in the country. At peak times there are four 12-carriage trains per hour per London terminus, into London Victoria and London Bridge (City). Figures from the Department for Transport show that each day an average of 3,992 passengers commute from East Grinstead to London for work, an average of 119,750 passengers per month, and 1.437 million passengers per year – more than any other London commuter town in the country. 

Alongside rail commuters, several more thousand people commute daily by road (A22) from East Grinstead into London and other employment hubs within the surrounding region. Because of the superb rail and road connectivity provided by East Grinstead, almost 80% of the town’s working population are commuters, with 44% of the working population commuting into Central London, and another 33% commuting to work in the local region to employment hubs such as Gatwick, Crawley and Burgess Hill (Source: Mid Sussex District Council: Economic Profile 2018).
