Buntingford itself may be the county’s smallest town, but it certainly doesn’t lack in history, significance or charm. It was first mentioned by name in 1185, in records of land owned by the Knights Templar. At the time, it was part of the parish of Layston, but the importance of its location, both on the River Rib and on the main road from London to York, ensured that it would rise in significance. Indeed, in 1360, it became home to one of the first community-run markets in the country. Amazingly, the market still continues each Monday and is only a ten minute walk from Lovats Chase.

By the 16th century, Buntingford was becoming an increasingly important staging post where travelers exchanged tired horses for rested ones. To accommodate these travelers, records show that up to fifteen coaching inns and pubs were erected.

Bob Weston, Chairman & CEO of Weston Homes, said: “Lovats Chase is located minutes from one of Hertfordshire’s most quintessential market towns, its architecture has little changed over the years and the streets are lined with a large number of Georgian and medieval buildings as well as several of the original coaching inns and pubs. These old buildings have been converted into independent shops, restaurants, pubs, supermarkets, butchers, florists and several coffee shops.

Buntingford thrives as a quaint close-knit community and this is what makes it ideal for families.”

For the active, there are football clubs for all ages, a dramatics society which gives all of its profits to charity, a swimming pool only a ten minute walk from Lovats Chase, a cricket club a five minute walk from the properties, two playing fields and a recreational ground as well as East Herts Golf Club which is a 10 minute drive from Lovats Chase.

Despite its historic charm and family friendly feel, Lovats Chase is also ideally situated for connections to larger towns, cities and further abroad. It’s approximately one mile to the A10 for connections to Cambridge and Hertford and from nearby Bishops Stortford, a train to Liverpool Street Station takes 35 minutes and a train to Stansted Airport takes nine minutes. This means families can have the best of both worlds – a home in a countryside setting without having to compromise with a long and tiring commute.

Moreover, typical three bedroom houses that are 35 minutes from Liverpool Street Station, such as those in Wembley, fetch prices of £623,627, significantly higher than the three bedroom houses in Lovats Chase which are selling for £411,500 (Foxtons). This allows residents to live affordably without sacrificing the luxury of city amenities.

The area also has excellent schools such as Layston C of E First School, a fifteen minute walk from Lovats Chase, and Millfield First and Nursery School, a five minute drive from Lovats Chase, which were both rated Outstanding by Ofstead.

Lovats Chase offers 56 two, three, four and five bedroom homes. Prices start from £290,000 – call 01763 258 360.
