Village delights and city style
There is an abundance of idyllic villages within a short drive – some even a vigorous walk – from Lovats Chase, whilst nearby Royston provides connections to Cambridge and the capital.
Great Hormead, Cottered, Barkway and Braughing are known as some of the county’s prettiest villages, brimming with characterful charm and excellent traditional pubs providing cosy, crackling fires in the winter and attractive gardens in the warmer months. It’s around six miles down the A10 to Pearce’s Farm Shop, where you can shop for local produce, gifts and plants, pick your own fresh fruits or enjoy a bite at the café.
For a wider choice of amenities, Hertford is around a 20-minute drive away, with independent and high street shops, bars and restaurants, a bustling Saturday market, theatre, museum and cinema. It’s just over seven miles to Royston station for links to cultural Cambridge in 15 minutes and London Kings Cross in just over 45 minutes.
The quality of schooling is a major draw for families, with nearby Layston C of E First School and Millfield First and Nursery School both rated outstanding by Ofsted. Edwinstree Middle School and Freman College also both have a superb reputation and are just half a mile away.
