Weston Homes regenerate the site of the historic gardens of Lord Cobham's country house into new Nightingale Rise Housing Scheme

The folly is located on a rise at one end of the development, historically once part of private gardens of Stowe House on the Cobham estate, the country residence of the Cobham family. The Grade II listed folly was built by and situated in the former private gardens of Sir Richard Temple (1675-1749) who became Lord Cobham due to his achievements on the battlefield with the British Army, where he served as Lieutenant General under the Duke of Marlborough.

Lord Cobham developed the gardens of the Cobham estate into a great French-style parterre garden. The gardens grew throughout the course of the eighteenth century due to the Cobham family being leaders of the Whig party and generating two Prime Ministers.
