In support of Britain’s armed forces, Weston Homes sponsored the ‘Support our Heroes’ evening which took place on Wednesday 25th March at the groups head office in Takeley, Essex. The evening was held to show support to local troops based at Colchester Garrison before they return to Helmand Province in Afghanistan this autumn.
The evening was a huge success attended by businesses and 84 military personnel from the local 2 and 3 Para’s. The event was held to raise awareness of the admirable work the troops are doing and to show patriotic support to the serving men and women.
Bob Weston, Chairman of Weston Homes, commented: “I am proud Weston Homes hosted the ‘Support our Heroes’ evening. Help for Heroes has always been a charity close to my heart as it supports those who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflicts, which more than ever, is a timely issue. The evening enlivened a patriotic spirit which is something the company strongly believes in and the great attendance showed that they have the support of local businesses in the area. It is my aim for the company to step beyond the realms of housebuilding and actively support the community which is why Weston Homes regularly undertakes fundraising drives and supports worthy causes.”
Various ranks from both 2 and 3 para attended, and the evening included a presentation from the soldiers, a four course meal and celebrity entertainment from Frank McLintock and Ian Irvine. Guests were encouraged to integrate with tables mixing military personnel and local businesses.
The members of both 2 and 3 Para from 16 Air Assault Brigade have recently returned from Helmand Province in Afghanistan. The troops will be returning again in October for six months duty.
