WESTON GROUP HIGHLIGHT SUCCESS OF STANSTED BUSINESS CENTRE & UNVEIL NEW COLCHESTER BUSINESS COMPLEX
New plans for the expansion of Stansted Airport are likely to have a positive impact on the Takeley based business centre operations of the Weston Group the company reported today as it unveiled plans for a second new 30,000sqft business centre in Colchester.
Under a £2.3 billion expansion plan for Stansted Airport, just announced by BAA, the airport would double in size and benefit from a new runway and terminal, scheduled to open by 2015.
Stansted Airport currently has 24 million passengers per year and over 15,980 flights per month. Under the expansion plans this would rise to 68million passengers. Crucially, the expanded airport would be more focused on business travellers. Currently over 18% of users are business travellers and this is set to rise dramatically under the expansion plans. Last year the airport handled £7.6billion of commercial business, up 5% on 2005.
Back in August 2003, the same year that the government first announced its plans to expand the runways and facilities at Stansted Airport, Weston Group, forecasting the airport’s growth, opened its first new serviced office centre, a 47,000sqft newly built complex in Takeley, known as The Stansted Centre, just five minutes drive from the airport.
The Stansted Centre is currently over 80% occupied and with the further expansion of the airport Weston Group anticipate that the business centre will continue to be highly successful.
The centre consists of two main elements, the serviced office provision and a state of the art conference centre. There are many services and facilities available to occupiers including IT support, secretarial, catering and administration services as well as day-to-day cleaning and maintenance. The conference centre holds up to 200 delegates and offers top quality audiovisual equipment including large format plasma and projection screens. The theatre can be hired for special events such as corporate days, workshops and exhibitions. The Stansted Centre’s close proximity to Stansted Airport makes the venue ideal for delegates flying in from international locations or from elsewhere in the UK.
The business centre also provides numerous other services including a dedicated hot desking area where users simply rent a hotdesk, plug in their laptop and begin working, the lively street café in the building’s glass atrium and a fully equipped gymnasium, available to clients as an optional extra.
Robert Weston, Chairman and Chief Executive of Weston Group comments: “Back in February 2003 when the airport plans were first discussed Weston spotted the potential growth of the airport and the surrounding regional economy. The airport and our Stansted Business Centre have gone from strength to strength and with the latest announcements about the new runway and terminal we see further growth in the demand for business space in the region. Such has been the success of our Stansted Centre that we are pleased to unveil plans for a new business centre in Colchester.”
The new Weston serviced office complex in Colchester will provide 30,000sqft of serviced office provision, a state of the art conference centre and other services including a dedicated Hot Desking area, meeting and conference rooms, a cafe and gymnasium. Located on Hawkins Road to the east of Colchester centre close to Hythe Station, the business complex is part of a wider regeneration project being undertaken by the Weston Group known as QV, which will provide 155 homes, landscaped grounds and parking facilities: scheduled for completion in late 2007.
The Colchester development is ideally located for commuters, with direct access from Colchester station to London Liverpool Street in under an hour. Stansted airport is just 45 minutes away while Harwich sea port can be reached in just 30 minutes.
