Today's guest blog post has been written by Weston Homes Plc Management Trainee, Joe Monti, who has been out and about in Chelmsford.
Chelmsford, a hidden gem of redevelopment and of exciting progression, forgotten in the wake of London and Cambridge, is striving to create a positive name for itself.
The City offers residents a fantastic quality of life with great services available, a vibrant leisure offer, quality parks, some of the best schools in the country and beautiful countryside; it's not surprising that Chelmsford was awarded its City Status.
Chelmsford is a new and exciting place for everyone, and when you visit the city it leaves a lasting impression of its natural beauty and modern innovation. Over the years, Chelmsford has undergone huge redevelopment and turning old abandoned factories and eyesores into impressive apartments and facilities.
Delving deep into the heart of the city, you find three shopping centres, which cater for every age and every need. The Meadows, High Chelmer and the 800 year old retail market combines popular brands with bespoke independent retailers providing visitors with great choice and variety. Shopping in Chelmsford is a pleasant and amicable experience, with natural beauty provided from the River Chelmer; recently the John Lewis Partnership unveiled plans to open a John Lewis, the first of its kind in Essex, and a new Waitrose improving the already superb shopping facilities.
Wining and Dining
Chelmsford has an abundance of restaurants and bars catering for all tastes and desires, with a mix of traditional pub food ranging to exotic vibrant tastes from around the world. First in the spotlight, is the excellent Olio Restaurant, a Mediterranean/ Italian family run restaurant is a city and county favourite that never fails to disappoint; located in the centre of Chelmsford is ideal for a quick meal or a formal occasion. Next on the list is the Zenxi, an eatery that specialises in Asian Cuisine providing excellent service and fantastic food, it truly gives you a great oriental fine-dining experience. Last on the list is Giraffe, brilliant for a quick meal during the day and perfect for a tranquil evening meal, Giraffe offers tasty food and quick service for very good prices.
Nightlife in Chelmsford is something to be desired and you truly get to see the Chelmsford at its finest as the city is transformed at night. It caters for many different target audiences; for young adults there are such venues as Missoula, CTZN and Evoke. For more of a casual setting, places like Baroosh and The Wine Cellar are both recommend highly by many locals and are brilliant venues to kick back and have good drinks in a pleasant environment. In addition to the modern quirky venues are some traditional pubs dotted in and around Chelmsford; a few that I have selected after good experiences include the Fox & Hound Pub, The Woolpack and the Ale House. It is in these places that you truly get a feel for the community and are able meet new people, especially if you are moving to the area for the first time then the recommended places are venues that will make you feel right at home and indulge in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Apart from its Wining & Dining and vibrant nightlife, Chelmsford has other sights to see and activities just on your doorstep that anyone can get involved with. For example, The Cathedral, built in the 15th/16th Century, is an integral part of the city and is an impressive structure of worship. In 1914 the church became the cathedral for the newly created diocese of Chelmsford.
Apart from visiting the impressive Cathedral, Chelmsford has many other activities and events, boasting huge gigs like V Festival and is home to Essex County Cricket Team. Also, popular amongst locals is Riverside Ice and Leisure and Chelmsford City Racecourse in Great Leighs, both provide brilliant nights out and cater for all age ranges. The city isn’t short of any leisure facilities and that is easy to see in the myriad of gyms, swimming pools and spas dotted around the area. If you want to keep fit or pamper yourself, you can easily do so due to their accessibility and affordability.
As you can see Chelmsford stands out as a truly great place to live, there is far more to Chelmsford than what first meets the eye and what’s great is there is so much more in this City still left to discover!
